Launching the Big Sky Sustainable Business Achievement Program

We’re thrilled to announce the official launch of the Big Sky Sustainable Business Achievement Program, a partnership led by Big Sky SNO, Big Sky Chamber of Commerce, and Visit Big Sky.

This program has been built through collaboration with a team of Big Sky business leaders and the hard work of Big Sky SNO’s summer Bacchus Climate Institute Scholar, Zosia.

Big Sky’s local businesses are stepping up—and now there’s a way to recognize and support those leading the charge. (Check out Trash Talk: Small Businesses Reduce Waste in Big Sky to see how local businesses are already making an impact to reduce waste.)

The Sustainable Business Achievement Program celebrates and promotes the commitment to sustainability of Big Sky businesses, providing the resources and support they need to succeed.
— Lizzie Peyton, Director Big Sky SNO

Why this program matters

As our community grows, so too do the environmental impacts of energy use, waste, water, and transportation. The Sustainable Business Achievement Program offers a pathway for local businesses to reduce their footprint, improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and collaborate with other local businesses.

How it works

  1. Inquiry & Initial Meeting
Businesses begin by filling out an inquiry form to receive more information and schedule a short meeting with the SNO team.

  2. Self-Assessment
Participants complete a self-assessment covering energy, waste, water, transportation, and community engagement. Need assistance? We’ll walk you through the process.

  3. Review & Goal Setting
After the assessment, business owners meet with SNO staff to review results, see where they already qualify, and identify opportunities for improvement. Businesses that aren’t quite there yet can join as “Aspiring Sustainable Businesses” and receive support to reach full recognition.

  4. Recognition & Rewards
Businesses meeting the benchmarks are awarded the Sustainable Business Achievement—complete with a plaque, promotional visibility through SNO and Chamber channels, and ongoing technical support. Aspiring businesses also benefit from resources, networking, and visibility while they continue their journey. A small participation fee helps cover program costs and ensures continued value, including program support and promotional materials.

Together, we’re building a more sustainable and resilient Big Sky.
